The RPRY Red Rockets took on Westchester Day School in Mamaroneck today in an evenly matched and highly anticipated game. Although RPRY played aggressively from the outset, the score remained tied at 0 through the first quarter. In fact, the tie was finally broken with a goal by Dina Zemble from behind the half court line early in the second quarter. Four minutes later Tova Hakakian netted a goal to bring the RPRY lead to 2-0, where it stayed for the rest of the quarter. Edie Berman then blasted in a goal from near half court four minutes into the third quarter to bring the score to 3-0. Sarah Hanian scored to make it 4-0 before WDS turned up their game to answer with three goals of their own over the next five minutes; but Sarah responded with her second goal to provide RPRY with a safe cushion and lead the team to their 5 - 3 WIN! A tireless effort by Kayla Jurkevich on defense contributed to the victory; and a fantastic performance was turned in by game MVP goalie Tamar Pasternak, who stopped several breakaway shots as she shut out WDS during her rotations.
